Shaping Our Future: How Should Higher Education Help Us Create the Society We Want? | Mar 19

Mortar-board-thrown-150x150The Paradise Valley Community College Office of the President and the President’s Community Council invite public participation in an important and engaging Community Conversation taking place Tuesday, March 19, 2013 from 7:30 to 9 a.m., on the college campus.

Shaping Our Future… is a national, nonpartisan conversation sponsored by the National Issues Forum and moderated by the Maricopa Community Colleges Center for Civic Participation. Business, community and education leaders are encouraged to participate in this national dialogue on the future of higher education and to join in this opportunity for communities across the country to share ideas and exchange views.

The diverse system of U.S. higher education already serves a number of important social purposes.  This forum focuses on the future of higher education and the consideration of options and trade-offs.  A structured and deliberative moderated discussion format will focus on three major options:

1.  Focus on Staying Competitive in the Global Economy

2.  Work Together to Repair an Ailing Society

3.  Ensure That Everyone Gets a Fair Chance

The voices, input and perspective of local leaders and stakeholders is crucial to the future of higher education as well as civic and social responsibility.
